Welcome to my D&D game.
This document will help you understand how we'll be playing the game. This first section is a general overview of what you expect. Later sections include the rule choices and modifications that we've made.
It's important to read this section before we play. You can dip into the Rules sections as needed.
I use a blend of the three pillars of D&D (Tactical combat, Role-play, Exploration). Combat is very tactical (e.g. strategy games) but will depend on the actual creatures (e.g. smart ones will use tactics vs beasts can be frightened and run away).
In encourage you to role-play as much as you feel comfortable. You don't need to use made-up voices or accents, but feel free to.
Everyone is on the same side and will not backstab each other. If the excuse is “but my character would have done it” then you need a new character.
This is supposed to be a fun game for all players first and foremost.
The campaign will depend on you for pursuing your goals and the world will change based on your in-game actions. There isn't one path I'll force you to follow so you'll need to self-direct as a group to decide what you want to do.
That also means what you do will change the world, for better and worse. Your actions and news of your actions will get around.
E.g. Decide not to save a key villager? No problem, now the village will struggle and gets taken over by an opportunistic warlord. Insult the butcher? Well, now the tavern won't serve you. Save the dragon from the evil princess? Now he might come to your aid later on.
Character death is real and can become permanent. Resurrection is not guaranteed, cheap, or easy. Characters can die at any time and their plot may not ever be completed.
That's why it's always great to bring a backup character.
Your backup character can join as soon as they are ready and there's a good time in the narrative. I'll do my best to fit them in quickly so you can continue playing.
